Patricia Burén
My work moves between documentary clarity and poetic abstraction. Whether I am
backstage during fashion week, on set or inside the quiet space of a print atelier, I
photograph the tension between vulnerability and strength, instinct and ritual. I am
drawn to gestures that are easily missed—hands preparing garments, light brushing across
skin, the moment a subject exhales and drops the performance.
Working across digital and analogue processes, including collotype, carbon printing and
other historic techniques, I use materiality and imperfection as a way to re-anchor the
image in the physical world. My approach—Attention, Truth & Ritual—guides my practice:
images built slowly, intentionally, and with respect for the people and environments I
photograph. Looking looking after the fact and rescuing the minutes lost in the ether..
On Instagram and in my editorial work, I create a visual language that blends intimacy,
rawness, and quiet cinematic tension. The result is a body of work that is both
observational and deeply personal—stories told through light, texture and presence.
Mon travail oscille entre la clarté documentaire et l’abstraction poétique. Que je sois dans les coulisses de la fashion week, sur un plateau ou dans le calme d’un atelier d’impression, je photographie la tension entre vulnérabilité et force, instinct et rituel. Je suis attiré par les gestes que l’on remarque à peine — des mains qui préparent un vêtement, une lumière qui glisse sur la peau, le moment où un sujet expire et laisse tomber la performance.
Travaillant à la fois en numérique et en argentique, notamment en collotypie, en tirage au charbon et avec d’autres techniques historiques, j’utilise la matérialité et l’imperfection comme moyen de réancrer l’image dans le monde physique. Mon approche — Attention, Vérité & Rituel — guide ma pratique : des images construites lentement, intentionnellement, et avec respect pour les personnes et les environnements que je photographie. Regarder après coup et sauver les minutes perdues dans l’éther.
Sur Instagram et dans mon travail éditorial, je crée un langage visuel qui mêle intimité, âpreté et une subtile tension cinématographique. Il en résulte un ensemble d’images à la fois observationnelles et profondément personnelles — des histoires racontées à travers la lumière, la texture et la présence.
